Tomorrow night, the Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize happens
You can join the judging panel online from 7pm
Hello to you.
The 2024 Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize is almost upon us, and this is me inviting you to be a judge.
What: Some chitchat about pop songs.
When: Tomorrow — that’s Thursday — at 7pm UK time.
Where: Inside a Zoom window.
Who: Maybe you? I mean why not??
How: Email me on peter.robinson@popjustice.com (or reply to this), tell me either one or two interesting and/or noteworthy things about yourself, and I’ll be in touch with joining details. I usually need to manage numbers a bit but I’ll try not to make anybody sad.
THE SHORTLIST
As you may remember, the shortlisted songs are:
A new bohemia by Pet Shop Boys
Angel Of My Dreams by JADE
Catch Me (Beautiful Fall) by twst
Encore by Shygirl and Danny L Harle
Girls by TSHA and Rose Gray
Healing Out of Spite by CATTY
Houdini by Dua Lipa
I Like The Way You Kiss Me by Artemas
Never Be Lonely — Cascada Remix by Jax Jones and Cascada
Sabotage by Michael Aldag
The Girl, So Confusing Version with Lorde by Charli XCX and Lorde
The Thrill Of It by Pixey
These are all very good songs. Some better than others, I suppose, but which specific ones are better than which other specific ones will be decided tomorrow evening.
Here are the songs in playlist form, if you’d like to give them another listen.
I think my favourite pairing — naturally I must maintain neutrality so I should state that these are not necessarily my favourite songs — is Jade’s Angel Of My Dreams and Pet Shop Boys’ A New Bohemia. They’re both about a tricky relationship with fame; one is about being famous, the other is about having been famous. Interesting!!!
Look I’ve got some other things I want to tell you but I need to get this sent so that I can at least say I’ve given you 24 hours’ notice.
Hope to see some of you tomorrow!
